Can we talk for a second about Mother's Day? This is such a fantastical holiday that I adore on so many levels. To begin with, I will share my Mother's Day so far:
1. Got to sleep late
2. Starbucks cinnamon infused coffee in bed
3. Eggs Benedict Florentine (made by my husband)
4. Home made cards from my brood
5. A dozen pink roses and a pair of earrings I've been wanting for a few weeks.
The earrings I had seen in a store but didn't get. I mentioned them to L but I figured that he probably wasn't listening, and even if he was, he wouldn't remember the earrings or conversation itself for more than about 3 minutes after I left the room. With his in mind, I shared with O that I saw a beautiful pair of earrings, and what store I saw them in. If there is one of my sons that I can rely on with this type of info, its O. You'll commonly hear O make comments like: "You look beautiful in that dress mom" or yesterday as 2 dogs were being married in a movie he was watching I heard this "I'm glad they're getting married V, because they love each other so much!" It worked, he hounded L relentlessly to take him to the store and low and behold, my new earrings are sitting on the dresser.
Mainly though, I just love Mother's Day because it isn't destined to fail the way many other holidays are. Like Valentine's Day when you get the wilted flowers because L forgot to go early enough to have a nice selection of fresh ones. Or he brings the candy with nuts and milk chocolate instead of dark. But Mother's Day is different. Of course the boys need L's help but for the most part, the things I get are perfect.
Nothing they ever give or make me is even slightly wrong because its from them, and they worked so hard to get make it / plant it / color it for me. The cards I got today included Toy Story 3 stickers, sparkly ice cream cone stickers, and a portrait of me (done by my sweet O) that made me look like a purple ameba. But these are the things that I love the most, and will still have 20 years from now, long after my new earrings are gone.
